Is it possible to enable the system info such as build name/no in the bottom right of the desktop in XP ?

TuneUp Utilities also enables it.

regedit.exe: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop -> change the value of "PaintDesktopVersion" from 0 to 1

or change this as a .reg file and doubleclick the file:

Code: Select all

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop]
"PaintDesktopVersion"=dword:00000001

This works with all NT Versions from 4.00

Kids think they have deep in sources at the age of 12, why bother caring when no one receives respect anymore, they assume bullcrap, but that's all they are.

Yep, but in windows 9x it's not a DWORD-value, it's a REG_SZ-value..

Then replace the "0" with a "1".

Either restart your computer or use the Task Manager to manually crash Explorer.exe, then use Taskmanager to restart Explorer.exe

The Screenshot is on Windows 2000, but it is exactly the same with XP.
I always feel i'll mess up something in the registry, i need to get over my fears rofl

How to disable the version number in Beta/Alpha builds?
Longhorn 4074 shows the number although the value is set to zero by default.

Removing the timebomb will usually remove the build tag.

I've removed the timebomb from whistler builds and still had the build tag show itself
on the bottom right hand corner.
I'm guessing that the product key used during installation may have something to do with the tag
showing as well.

I don't think so:

In fact my build shown in Windows Information is different from explorer.exe.

You should always restart windows after applying registry tweaks to get the full effects of them.
