@Ken, I thought if you can get an ADSL connection, you can get service from any provider, regardless of how remote you are?

Well, yeah I could, but my business phone / home phone & mobile is
with Telstra, & because all services are with them I get a good deal on
my land line plans & mobile..
Iv'e only been on adsl for nearly a year at that, it wasn't available up until
this time last year..
When ive been with them for a year i'll try to screw a better deal out of em.

Country: UK
Provider: TalkTalk
Max Download Speed: advertised "up to" 8mbps, currently about 2.5mbps according to my wireless router.
Max Upload Speed: Currently 288kbps
Cost Per Month: £21 approx, also including phone line rental and phone calls to landline phones in UK and 28 other countries, calls to mobiles cost extra.
Download/Upload Limits (if any): I think they say they can restrict your speed at peak times if you've used more than 40 GB of bandwidth in that month, but I'm never going to download that much stuff anyway!

Is that a joke

Kbps = Kilobits per second
KB/s = Kilobits per second

These two are different ways of writing the same things...

No it wasnt a joke, and your comment is wrong.

Kbps = KiloBITS per second
KB/s = KiloBYTES per second

Which is the reason I tell people to get it right since they are two different things. 200Kbps is roughly 20KB/s and vice versa. People meaning 200KB/s often put 200Kbps and that is incorrect.

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-09-06 03:07:52 EST:
13028 / 354
Your download speed : 13028 kbps or 1628.5 KB/sec.
That is 135.8% better than an average user on comcast.net

Your upload speed : 354 kbps or 44.2 KB/sec.
That is 24.5% worse than an average user on comcast.net

$62.00 per month with digital cable, so it's about $31.00 per month.

i have a line amplifier installed, which explains the fat-ass speeds. i've had 250+ clients connected on bittorent and still able to browse the internet.

did a second test, got this:

dslreports.com speed test result on 2006-09-06 03:26:49 EST:
17427 / 356
Your download speed : 17427 kbps or 2178.3 KB/sec.
That is 214.7% better than an average user on comcast.net

Your upload speed : 356 kbps or 44.5 KB/sec.
That is 24% worse than an average user on comcast.net

seems like the servers in europe are not connected to the US very well, and west coast servers seem to be throttling thier connections, possibly because of traffic from asia.

Country:Canada
Provider:Cogeco
Down Speed:7mbps(sometimes goes to 10 whenever it feels like)
up speed:640kbps
Cost: $44.95/month
Bandwidth Cap Upload/download combined: 60GB though they are lenient and wont charge you if you go over, they just advertise that because its the law for cable providers that have unfair advantages over DSL to do that.
