Steve Jobs has struck out against teachers unions, ironically at an education reform conference. He compared schools to businesses, then Principals to CEOs. He continued to ask rhetorically "What kind of person could you get to run a small business if you told them that when they came in, they couldn't get rid of people that they thought weren't any good?"
The president of the America's Foundation for teachers has invited Jobs to "really see what's going on in the schools". Jobs also stated he'd like to spend less money on textbooks, and more money on "computers, faster Internet, things like that".
This reporter believes it's humerous how Jobs hasn't been in a secondary school institution for approxmately 33 years, yet he believes he knows more than school boards; how to run a school, where the money should be spent and believes if a teacher is not good when they start, they shouldn't be given a chance to develop skills. I can see how someone who lives in a rich house, has a rich car and is loaded could see another persons ambitions, career and financial security as so worthless.
Some of my best teachers were horrible when they first started, and its sad how someone could use such cold methodology in a world they have not seen for nearly twice as long as most readers have lived.
